Frequently asked questions
There are two ways to add a plant:
Via Identification:
- Tap the camera button
- Take a photo or select from your library
- Review the identification result
- Tap Add to Collection
- Optionally assign a nickname and room
Via Manual Entry:
- Tap the camera button
- Tap Add Manually
- Enter plant details (nickname required)
- Optionally add species, room, and acquisition info
Sylvie uses a hybrid identification system with multiple steps:
- On-device model (when available) — fast matches that can work offline
- PlantNet (primary) — tried next for every identification
- AI escalation (premium) — used for complex cases when cloud confidence is low
When a network ID is needed, the app sends your photo to these services and returns the best match with a confidence score.
Sometimes exact species identification isn't possible from a photo alone — for example, many Alocasia or Begonia species look very similar. In these cases, Sylvie will confirm the genus (plant group) with high confidence and provide care guidance that applies to the whole group. You can optionally tap a suggested species to refine if you know which one you have.
Think we got it wrong? Flag an incorrect identification from the plant profile, and if our team agrees, you'll get the ID credit refunded.
- Anonymous (not signed in): 3 IDs per day
- Signed In (free): 10 IDs per day
- Premium: Unlimited
Limits reset at midnight (local time). You can check your remaining IDs in Settings. There's also a 5-second cooldown between attempts to prevent accidental double-taps.
Yes! Deleted plants and rooms are kept for 7 days before permanent deletion.
- Go to Settings > Data > Recently Deleted
- View deleted items with days remaining
- Tap an item to Restore or Delete Permanently
After 7 days, items are automatically purged on app launch.
- Open a plant profile
- On the Care tab, tap a care action button:
- Water (drop icon)
- Fertilize (leaf icon)
- Repot (pot icon)
- Prune (scissors icon)
- Confirm the action in the bottom sheet
- Optionally add notes
All care activities appear in the care history with date, time, and any notes. You can edit or delete entries by tapping on them.
All users get instant plant health checks that detect common issues like overwatering, underwatering, light problems, and nutrient deficiency. Premium adds AI-powered diagnosis and much more.

Sylvie Premium is managed through the Apple App Store:
- Open Settings on your iPhone/iPad

- Find Sylvie and manage or cancel from there
If you cancel, your premium features remain active until the end of the current billing period. For billing issues or refund requests, contact Apple Support directly.
If your data isn't appearing on another device, check these:
- Both devices are signed into the same Apple ID
- iCloud is enabled in iOS Settings
- Sylvie has Sign in with Apple active
- Wait a few minutes — sync may be delayed
- Force-close and reopen the app (or follow the in-app "Restart to Enable Sync" prompt if shown)
If sync seems stuck, check your internet connection and verify iCloud has available storage in Settings > Data.
For conflicting data, Sylvie uses last-write-wins — the most recent change is preserved. Care logs are append-only and don't conflict.
- Go to Settings > Notifications
- Enable Care Reminders
- Choose your default reminder time:
- Morning (8:00 AM)
- Afternoon (1:00 PM)
- Evening (6:00 PM)
Notification types include watering reminders based on plant frequency, care suggestions for plant health, and sync status updates.
