This Privacy Policy explains how Sylvie Plant App ("Sylvie", "we", "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Sylvie Plant App mobile application and our website.

Summary

  • Photos: Used for plant identification and your plant library; identification photos are sent to third-party identification providers (PlantNet and Plant.id) when you request an identification.
  • iCloud sync (optional): If you enable iCloud sync, plant data and photos can sync via Apple CloudKit to your iCloud account.
  • Backend sync (when configured): If you sign in, we may sync account, preferences, and certain plant data to our servers to support the app and power the admin dashboard.
  • Analytics (when configured): We collect basic usage events; user identifiers are hashed before sending.
  • No tracking: We do not track you across other companies' apps and websites for advertising.

Information we collect

Photos and images

  • Identification photos: When you choose a photo or take a photo to identify a plant, the app sends that image to third-party identification services (PlantNet and Plant.id) to return an identification result.
  • Plant library photos and growth photos: Photos you add to your plants and growth timeline are stored on your device. If you enable iCloud sync, these photos may also be stored and synced via Apple CloudKit.

Plant and care information

We store information you add about your plants, such as species, nicknames, room names, and care-related fields (for example watering frequency, light requirement, and timestamps like last watered). Depending on your settings and configuration, some plant information may be synced to our servers to support features and the admin dashboard.

Account information (Sign in with Apple)

If you sign in with Apple, we may collect and store:

  • Apple user identifier: Used to associate your account with your device and sync.
  • Name and email: Apple may provide your name and email address on first sign-in. You may use Apple's private relay email.
  • Marketing preference: Whether you have opted in to email marketing.

App and device information

When the app syncs with our servers, we may collect:

  • Device token: If you enable push notifications, we may store your device token to send notifications.
  • Device metadata: App version, OS version, and device model.

Analytics events (anonymized)

When analytics is enabled and configured, we collect basic events such as: app opened, plant added or archived, care logged, identification events, tip or fun fact viewed, subscription started or cancelled. To reduce personal identification, we hash the Apple user identifier (SHA-256) before sending and store only the hash with the event (when available).

Server logs

When you use features that contact our servers (for example sync, AI requests, and analytics), our hosting providers and servers may process standard log data such as IP address, request metadata, and timestamps for security and reliability.

We do not intentionally collect location

The app does not request precise location (GPS) access and does not intentionally collect your precise or coarse location.

How we use information

We use information to:

  • Provide core features: plant identification, plant library, care reminders, and saved content
  • Sync across devices (optional): via Apple CloudKit when you enable iCloud sync
  • Operate the service: maintain accounts, prevent abuse, and troubleshoot issues
  • Send notifications: reminders and other messages when you enable push notifications
  • Provide AI features: generate care tips, enriched metadata, and fun facts when you use AI features
  • Understand usage: improve the app using aggregated analytics

How we share information

We share information only as needed to provide the service:

  • Apple: Sign in with Apple, App Store billing (StoreKit), and optional iCloud sync (CloudKit).
  • Plant identification providers: PlantNet and Plant.id receive the photos you submit for identification and return identification results.
  • AI providers: When you use AI features, we send relevant context to our servers and our AI service provider (Anthropic) to generate responses.
  • Email delivery: If you receive emails from us, we use a third-party provider (Postmark) to send them.
  • Infrastructure: We use third-party hosting and databases to run the app's backend services.

We may also share information for legal reasons or in the event of business transfers. We do not sell your personal information.

Data retention

  • On device and iCloud: Plant data and photos are stored on your device. If iCloud sync is enabled, data is also stored in your iCloud account via CloudKit.
  • On our servers: We retain synced account and plant dashboard data as needed to operate the service. We retain analytics events in an anonymized form.

Deleting your data

You can delete your account from within the app. Account deletion is designed to:

  • delete your local app data on the device
  • delete CloudKit-synced app data (where applicable)
  • request deletion of your personal data from our servers
  • anonymize previously collected analytics by removing the user hash

Your choices

  • iCloud sync: You can enable or disable iCloud sync in the app.
  • Push notifications: You can enable or disable push notifications in iOS Settings and in-app settings (where available).
  • Email marketing: You can opt in or out of marketing emails. Marketing emails include an unsubscribe option.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

Children's privacy

Sylvie is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date above.
